Elegance, tradition, nostalgia . . . the 120-year-old St Vincent's Church.

Nestled amongst the mature trees in the grounds of Oruawharo Homestead is St Vincent’s which is the perfect venue for a function indoors or out. The historic St Vincent’s Church was relocated to Oruawharo in 2012 from the nearby township of Takapau.

The Church was donated to Takapau by the Johnston family, who owned the Oruawharo Homestead and surrounding farmland. Due to dwindling congregation numbers, the Church was donated to Oruawharo, where it has now become home to the High Teas, wakes, corporate gatherings, weddings and other functions.

The Church building has been respectfully renovated to enable us to meet the needs of modern functions, whilst retaining all its original charm and ambience.

The photographic opportunities at Oruawharo are limitless. Wherever you turn some spectacular backdrop will create unique, lifelong memories of your day. The steps to the front door, the elegant hall, dignified rooms and a fine collection of antique furniture provide elegant settings for formal photographs. Or you can capture Oruawharo’s rural tradition and choose the beautifully restored 150-year-old coach house and stables, the woodland, or gardens as your surrounds.

Oruawharo & St Vincent's welcomes you to celebrate it with a share in the heritage of one

of Hawke's Bay’s finest old homesteads.
